Smart Container Project: The “Flat Orange” Unit
Inventory management through weight-based sensing — a battery-powered approach to knowing what is on the shelf, in the container, or in the bin.

- Battery-powered units designed to calculate the weight of items in real time, suitable for deployment without fixed power or wired networking where the product design allows.

- Automatically sending alerts when weight thresholds are dropped, indicating low stock so teams can act before run-out.

CO₂ Refrigeration Monitoring: The “Tiaki” Monitor
A robust, safety-critical solution for modern supermarket cooling systems using R-744 (CO₂) refrigeration.
- The problem
- CO₂ is environmentally attractive for refrigeration, but leaks at high concentrations are lethal. Monitoring and response must be engineered to the same rigor as the mechanical plant.
- The solution
- The Tiaki Monitor — an IoT-enabled device (Wi-Fi / LTE) designed to be retrofitted to existing cooling units, extending fleet life without a full rip-and-replace.
- Key features

- Integrated relays can automatically shut down cooling units during a detected leak event.
- Monitors valve temperatures to surface early signs of stress and help catch potential compressor failures before they happen.
- Pre-configured alignment with international expectations including OSHA (US), COSHH (UK), and SANS (South Africa) — framed for compliance and audit-ready operations.
- Software integration
- Telemetry flows into a central dashboard for trend analysis, historical reporting (supporting litigation and compliance evidence), and instant technician notifications when the edge device raises an alarm.
Xiana
An internal enterprise assistant built for 99x — combining authoritative knowledge retrieval, smoother collaboration workflows, and passwordless access for distributed engineering, HR, and delivery teams.

Operational challenges and design intent
Xiana was developed as an internal solution for 99x to address concrete operational challenges identified across engineering, HR, and delivery teams. These challenges included difficulty accessing up-to-date policies, inefficiencies in scheduling meetings across distributed teams, and the need for secure yet frictionless authentication in shared workspaces.
The goal was not to build a generic chatbot, but a trusted enterprise assistant that employees could interact with naturally and rely on for accurate, policy-compliant information.
